Evaluation

868-BACK launched on May 28, 2026. Since then, developer Michael Brough has been actively patching the game — shipping multiple bug-fix and feature patches through August 2026 (the most recent being Build 244 on August 4, 2026). These patches address bugs, add minor cosmetics and UI features, and improve accessibility, but do not constitute major new content expansions. The most informative communication is a detailed developer interview published on June 30, 2026 [NEWS-4], in which Michael Brough describes the full development history of 868-BACK and his current state. He explicitly states: "There are still things to do - bugs to fix, ports to port - and I'm getting to them, but I've slowed down a lot. I'm quite tired." He describes having pushed hard toward the end of development and now resting, managing his chronic fatigue. There is no mention of planned DLC, expansions, sequels, or additional major content. The framing is clearly one of post-launch maintenance — fixing bugs and completing ports — rather than building toward new content. There are no unreleased DLC listings on the store, no season pass, no roadmap, and no announcements of future content. The game's store description presents it as a complete, self-contained roguelike experience. The post-launch patch cadence is consistent with a developer doing post-launch polish and maintenance, not content development. The developer's own words confirm this posture. Given the developer's explicit statement about winding down after an intense development period, the absence of any content announcements, and the nature of the patches shipped since launch, 868-BACK appears to have launched as a complete product. The game has been available long enough (since May 28, 2026) and the developer has communicated clearly enough that the "recently launched" uncertainty from the prior evaluation has been resolved.
Evidence
Developer Michael Brough states post-launch: 'There are still things to do - bugs to fix, ports to port - and I'm getting to them, but I've slowed down a lot. I'm quite tired.' No mention of planned DLC, expansions, or future major content. Framing is clearly post-launch maintenance and rest after an intense final development push.

About this game

The Mainframe is lost, and you might be the only person still able to fight the MegaCorps. Lucky you! Your mission: dismantle capitalism one computer server at a time.

Data is currency, money, moola 🤑 The MegaCorps have too much info on me, you, and everyone. You’ll be taking it back. After all, progs aren’t cheap!

Progs are powers, and the MegaCorps control them all. You'll be stealing their code, and using it against them. Expect consequences.

You didn’t think the MegaCorps were going to let you reach the Mainframe without a fight, did you? The cyberstakes are high. Get disconnected too many times, and your mission starts from scratch.

The Big Three’s defenses are strong, Hacker, but you can be stronger. Pick up new tricks on every run, use the MegaCorps' progs to change the world, and find that Mainframe!
