Evaluation
A Book of Beasts and Buddies is a small, free-to-play interactive bestiary created for a game jam (A Game By Its Cover). It launched on November 14, 2018 as a self-contained experience. The developer, Squiddershins, has posted no updates, patches, or content additions for this game since its release. All three developer news posts on the game's Steam page are announcements about separate projects: a Kickstarter for Kaichu (February 29, 2020), the release of Kaichu - The Kaiju Dating Sim (September 8, 2022), and an announcement for a new game called Wishfarers (September 24, 2025). None of these posts mention new content for A Book of Beasts and Buddies — the September 2025 post does note that Wishfarers takes place in the same world and includes creatures from this game, but this refers to Wishfarers as a new standalone title, not as additional content for this one. The store description makes no mention of future updates or planned content. The game launched as a finished jam project and has remained so.
Evidence
Developer announces a new game, Wishfarers, set in the same world as A Book of Beasts and Buddies. The post confirms creature appearances in the new game but does not announce any new content for A Book of Beasts and Buddies itself.
Store description positions the game as a complete, jam-based interactive bestiary with no mention of future updates or planned content.
