Evaluation
Abathor launched on July 25, 2024 as a retro-style 2D action platformer. After launch, the developer shipped a substantial feature update (v1.1) on September 23, 2024, adding a new Speedrun Mode, balance changes, new enemies, and quality-of-life improvements. On February 10, 2025, the developer ran a community challenge event. Then on April 17, 2025, the developer released what they called the "Ultimate Edition Update" — the most significant post-launch update, featuring redesigned hitboxes, running mechanics, a fully redrawn world map, new difficulty modes, and extensive rebalancing. This update was explicitly framed as "the definitive way to experience" the game, representing a comprehensive overhaul that brought the game to its most complete state. Since the Ultimate Edition Update on April 17, 2025, there have been no further developer communications or announcements of additional content. The only DLC listed is the game's soundtrack, which was released on launch day. The developer has not announced any future content, roadmap, or expansion plans. With the Ultimate Edition Update serving as a clear capstone release and no outstanding commitments or further communications since April 17, 2025, the game appears to have reached its completed state.

About this game

"Know, oh prince, that in the years when Atlantis ruled the oceans, sins and arrogance unleashed fierce demons. When everything seemed lost, four heroes arrived to close the Gates of Abathor."
The Atlantean civilization has angered the gods. They have sent hordes of monsters to punish Atlantis by destroying the continent. Players must cooperate and compete to save Atlantis, going through a series of challenges of increasing difficulty. In their progress, our heroes will fight against ferocious demons and primordial gods, against the living and against the dead, against flying beasts and crawling horrors. They will dodge dangers and traps and descend into chilling abysses. But they will also compete against each other for the loot and the spoils, plundering treasures and offering them to the gods to receive their favor.
