Evaluation

Alnico Smithery is a solo-developed Early Access game that entered Steam Early Access on October 25, 2024. The developer (Pinapl) has remained communicative and active throughout the Early Access period. Two major content milestones have shipped since launch: Version 3.30 on July 25, 2025, which included a completely overhauled forging minigame, redesigned menus, experimental localization in 10 languages, and numerous gameplay additions; and Beta 3.40 on December 23, 2025, a rebalancing and polish update adding new sprites, achievements, and quality-of-life improvements. On October 25, 2025 — the game's one-year Early Access anniversary — the developer published a detailed roadmap covering everything still planned before the full 1.0 release: three new NPCs (Forge Supplier, Inventor, and Collector), five new structures (Basin, Grindstone, Tumbler, Crusher, and Generator), new items such as a wrench for rearranging the smithery, an enchanting system, alternate gameplay modes including a "Hard" mode, and various mechanic overhauls. In that same post, the developer explicitly answered the question "Is the game still being worked on?" with "Yes," and stated that if development were ever to stop, a formal announcement would be made. The developer has acknowledged that updates can be slow because this is a solo hobby project alongside a full-time job, but has maintained steady communication and patches since launch. As of today (October 8, 2026), the last developer communication on Steam was December 23, 2025 — approximately nine and a half months ago. While this is a notable gap in public Steam posts, the developer had previously noted that more frequent updates are posted to the community Discord, and has a documented pattern of quieter periods followed by substantial updates. The October 2025 roadmap commitments remain undelivered, and the developer has made no announcement indicating development has ended.

About this game

IS SOMEONE THERE?

Alnico Smithery is a hand drawn physics based forging simulator. Mine for ore, smelt ingots, discover alloys, forge tools, and rebuild the smithery your grandfather left behind.

PROVE YOUR METTLE, FORGE THAT METAL

Alnico features 12 base metals to mine and smelt, and over 100 named alloys to discover, some real, some fantastical. Transform your ingots into valuable tools and items, with over 40 different crafting recipes to learn. Each alloy has a unique composition and set of properties, keep them in mind to make the best use of your metal.

WORKING HARD OR HARDLY WORKING?

Alnico features physics based mechanics: turn cranks, pull levers, pump bellows, and more. Each tool and object can be clicked and dragged around, stacked, thrown, it’s up to you. Keep your forge neat and tidy, or embrace the chaos and pile your junk wherever it lands.

NOWHERE TO GO BUT UP

Your smithery starts with everything you need to succeed, but there’s plenty of room to grow. Sell your handicrafts and purchase new tools, stations, and upgrades to further improve your forge. As you progress, you’ll find you’re able to find and create even more than you could before.
