Evaluation

Ann is a free-to-play RPG horror game released on August 26, 2021. The developer (Rong Rong) has been explicit about the game's philosophy: it was made as a love letter to classic freeware RPG-maker horror games and released as a complete, finished product. The only DLC — a Digital Artbook & Extra Contents pack — shipped on the same day as the game itself (August 26, 2021), confirming it was always a bonus companion item rather than a sign of ongoing content development. The developer's first-anniversary post on August 26, 2022 focused entirely on celebrating the community, highlighting hidden in-game content, and pointing players toward fan translations — with no mention of new content, updates, or future plans. That post, which also represents the last developer communication on record, wraps up with "if there are more game news or updates in the future, it will be announced in a new post" — a parting note that reads as a polite sign-off rather than a promise of things to come. The game has no history of major post-launch content updates and no unreleased DLC. Ann launched as a complete, self-contained experience and there is no indication from the developer that additional content is planned.
Evidence
First anniversary post celebrating the community and highlighting existing hidden content and fan translations. No new content announced. Developer signs off with an open-ended note about future posts if anything comes up — the last developer communication on record.

About this game

"This game is my love letter & homage to the golden age of Horror RPG-maker games in 2012. And just like those old RPG-maker games this game features chase scenes and some death puzzles, if you die, try and try again! Good luck!"

-Why is the game free?
"I want everyone to enjoy the game just like how they enjoyed the classic RPG maker horror games, as a freeware that everyone can just pick up and play after a long exhausting day of school/work, that's how I was introduced to Ib, Ao Oni, Mad Father and other great RPG maker horror games back then. I just want to bring back the spirit of the old classic 2012 where RPG maker horror games were booming, y'know".
- Jason "Rong Rong" H.
