众生 (The Lives) entered Steam Early Access on February 28, 2018. The developer, a small indie studio, posted a few updates in early 2018 including feature patches and announcements. However, on October 8, 2019, they published a candid development status post explaining that financial difficulties had forced the team to take part-time jobs, significantly slowing progress. They also cited the complexity of building a full AI system for NPCs as a major technical hurdle. The developer expressed hope to resolve these issues by June 2020 but made clear that a full release was unlikely even by the end of 2019. That October 2019 post was the last communication from the developer — there have been no updates, patches, or announcements of any kind since then. The game remains in Early Access, purchasable on Steam, but more than six years of silence following an explicit disclosure of financial strain and slow development raises serious questions about whether active development is continuing. The promised June 2020 milestone passed without any update.
