Evaluation

Assault Android Cactus launched out of Early Access on September 23, 2015 as a complete twin-stick shooter. After launch, Witch Beam continued refining the game with feature patches — adding new language support (April 2016), balance improvements and a developer commentary mode (June 2018), and various bug fixes throughout. The most significant post-launch addition came on April 30, 2019, when the developer shipped the Campaign+ update — described as "our biggest update since leaving Early Access in 2015." This free update added remixed stages with new enemy waves, new character costumes, an automatic aim accessibility option, and a movie gallery. The game's title was also updated to "Assault Android Cactus+" to reflect this expanded content. A March 2020 post announced a limited physical edition for Nintendo Switch, but this was a retail/distribution announcement rather than a signal of new digital content. No future content has been announced since April 2019, no unreleased DLC exists in the store, and the developer has made no statements suggesting further updates are planned. The store description reflects the complete package — all features described (Campaign+, Infinity Drive, 9 androids, 25-stage campaign) are present and available. The only DLC is the original soundtrack, which released alongside the game in 2015. The game was effectively completed in its current form with the April 30, 2019 Campaign+ update.

Utilising a draining battery mechanic in place of lives, Assault Android Cactus challenges you to think fast and keep the bullets flying, blending the gameplay of western styled arena shooters with aspects of Japanese style bullet hell as you charge head first through transforming stages, massive boss battles and an eclectic cast of characters on the way to saving the day.
