Backrooms: Escape Together

Backrooms: Escape Together is an Early Access game that has been in active, sustained development since its October 2022 launch. The studio, Triiodide Studios, began as a solo project and publicly disclosed in March 2023 that the scope required hiring additional staff — a milestone that has clearly paid off, as the pace and scale of updates have grown considerably since then. The game has shipped six major content updates, adding new levels, systems, entities, and overhauls at a consistent pace: BET 0.5 (November 2023), Journeys & Junctions Part I (July 2024), Journeys & Junctions Part II (March 2025), BET 0.13 / Level -1 (November 2025), and most recently Level 232: Infinite Grocery Store (May 28, 2026). This establishes a sustained major content cadence of roughly every 4–8 months. Beyond content, the studio has been investing heavily in the game's foundation: a major engine upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.7 shipped in December 2025, a full audio overhaul arrived in October 2025, modding support entered closed alpha in March 2026, and a voice chat overhaul shipped in June 2026. The developer has stated an ongoing mission to make this "the best multiplayer experience on Steam" and "the best co-op game on Steam." Most significantly, on May 28, 2026, the studio announced console ports to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launching June 18, 2026 — a major platform expansion that signals the game is very much still in active growth. The developer has communicated no intent to conclude Early Access or cease content development. All signals point to a game with substantial ongoing development momentum.
