Evaluation

Blocks That Matter launched on August 19, 2011 as a complete puzzle-platformer. The developer shipped a handful of post-launch patches and a notable feature update on November 1, 2011 (the "Chocolate Update," adding bonus levels, new blocks, and new music), followed by Steam Workshop integration on October 9, 2012. After that, all developer activity shifted to their next game, Tetrobot and Co., which was announced in October 2012 and released in October 2013. No new content for Blocks That Matter has been announced or released since October 2012. The store description references "more free content to come," but this phrasing is from the original 2011 listing and was superseded by the developer's complete pivot to their sequel — no subsequent communication has reiterated any such plans. The most recent developer posts in the game's news feed are from 2013 and exclusively discuss Tetrobot and Co. With over a decade of silence on this title and no outstanding commitments, Blocks That Matter is a finished product.
Evidence
Tetrobot and Co. released on Steam. All subsequent developer communications are about this sequel, with no further updates or announcements for Blocks That Matter.

About this game

When indie game developers Alexey and Markus are in trouble, their only hope comes from their creation.
You are the Tetrobot: a tiny robot that can drill blocks of matter one by one, collect them, and recycle them into new pieces of 4 blocks. You also have the possibility to destroy lines of 8+ blocks in a very «retro russian» game style. Sand, wood, stone, obsidian, iron, diamond: each matter has its specific behaviour you'll have to use wisely and take advantage of them. So get ready to use your brain and combine your platforming and puzzle-solving skills in this incredible mashup!

Key features:

  • A unique gameplay experience mixing puzzle and platform that will challenge your brain
  • 40 levels to play in Adventure Mode, 20 bonus levels to unlock and more free content to come
  • Collect every 40 "Blocks That Matter" and rediscover videogames made of blocks that made or will make History
  • Create and share your own puzzles using an easy-to-use level editor
  • Steam achievements: 30+ achievements to unlock by playing the game and being creative.
  • Steam Cloud: No matter if you play on PC or Mac, at home or outside, your progression will be saved.
