Blood Trail VR has been in Early Access since March 2019 and remains in active development by its two-person studio, Electrovore. The developer posted a substantial development update on September 5, 2026 — just 11 days before today — confirming that work is continuing on multiple fronts. The post explains that the team spent several months exploring a full IK body system for the player character before canceling that effort, then pivoted to focus on the melee combat overhaul. Caleb notes that melee AI and animation work is ongoing and nearing a shareable state, and mentions a fully redesigned menu system, new unannounced features, and continued AI refinements all in progress. The last major content release was Update 0.4 on May 25, 2025, which brought the overhauled C.A.P.E.C.O.D. damage system, a rebuilt enemy AI, stealth mechanics, and new maps to the main branch. That update itself noted several features still in development: the melee combat system (melee NPCs were temporarily removed to facilitate it), a weapon attachment system, and additional enemy visual variations. The developer's detailed 2023 roadmap outlined a sequence of overhaul updates followed by a content drop and then a story campaign to be released in chapters — described as where "the bulk of the game's content" will live. The Gore/AI phase of that roadmap has since shipped, but the melee overhaul, player/weapons update, content drop, and story campaign all remain ahead. The store description continues to reference the story campaign as a future full-release feature and states plainly that "Blood Trail is just getting started." There is no indication the game is nearing completion or transitioning out of Early Access in the near term.
