Brotato

Brotato launched in full on June 23, 2023. On September 29, 2025, development responsibilities were handed from the original developer, Blobfish Games, to Evil Empire, with Blobfish retaining oversight. Evil Empire has since shipped two major free updates: New Dawn (October 27, 2025), which added new items, a ban system, save profiles, a codex, and Mac/Linux support; Paws & Claws (February 11, 2026), which introduced pets and a new character; and All Pain No Gain (May 12, 2026), which added a Nightmare difficulty mode, a new character, and a new weapon. A second paid DLC — Brotato: Primal Dread — was officially announced on April 9, 2026, targeting a 2026 Steam release. It is listed on the Steam store as unreleased with no date confirmed. On August 20, 2026, the developers opened a signed playtest for the DLC and confirmed it is targeting a late 2026 release. Most recently, on September 14, 2026 — just three days before today's assessment — the developers announced that Primal Dread will have something to show at The Triple-i Initiative showcase on October 8, 2026, describing it as potentially including a launch date, gameplay reveal, or other major announcement. The DLC will include 20 new waves of enemies and bosses, new characters, weapons, items, a new stat, and additional gameplay elements. Release is clearly imminent.
