Captain Bones: Prologue is a free standalone demo for the full game "Captain Bones," containing the opening portion of the story and most of the game's core mechanics.
The prologue has received a series of updates since its July 2021 release: a UI and visual patch in May 2022, a gameplay systems update in October 2022, a quality-of-life patch in December 2022, a character and visual overhaul in May 2023, and a substantial "New Big Update 2" on December 14, 2024. That last update added character customization options, new voice dubbing, and gameplay improvements.
Critically, the December 14, 2024 update explicitly states: "In-game character customization will be added in the next update version." This is a clear developer commitment to a specific, named feature still to come.
However, as of October 1, 2026, no further update has appeared — a silence of over 21 months since that post. This is significantly longer than any previous gap between updates in the game's history (the longest prior gap was roughly 18 months between May 2023 and December 2024). The developer has made no announcement explaining the delay or confirming that development has ended. The promised feature has not shipped, and there has been no communication of any kind since December 14, 2024.
