Card Hunter has been available since July 13, 2015, and over the years received meaningful expansions and updates. The most significant post-launch content was the Celestial Forge expansion, which launched on June 7, 2022, bringing 115 new equipment items, 30 new cards, new monsters, and a new Crafting system. A few follow-up feature patches shipped through September 13, 2022.
On December 19, 2023, the developer published a candid statement about the game's future. They disclosed that they had been working on a successor title called "Card Hunter: Adventures" but were forced to abandon it because publishers were unwilling to fund the project and it was too expensive to make independently. They then addressed Card Hunter directly: further development of the existing game would require a full engine rewrite, which is also not financially viable. As a result, the developer stated clearly — "don't expect anything new" — while confirming that the servers will continue to run and they will maintain the game and support the community. This was an explicit developer statement that new content development has ended.
This December 2023 post is the last official communication from the developer, and it draws a clear line under new content for the game. The game is complete as it stands, with its full campaign, co-op mode, PvP, and the Celestial Forge expansion representing the final state of content.
