Carto launched on October 27, 2020 as a complete, self-contained adventure game with a 5-7 hour story. The developer, Sunhead Games, framed the launch post as the culmination of the project ("After several years of development, we are proud and excited to say that Carto is out now"), with no mention of post-launch content plans, expansions, or a roadmap. The only DLC released is the Original Game Soundtrack (November 3, 2020), which is a music pack rather than game content. A feature patch on December 28, 2020 added control remapping and minor quality-of-life improvements. That December 2020 post is the last developer communication on record. There have been no announcements of future content, no unreleased DLC, and no updates of any kind since December 28, 2020. The game was designed and shipped as a finished, standalone experience, and all evidence points to development having concluded shortly after launch.

Separated from her Granny during a storm, young Carto must use her innate cartography powers to map and manipulate the world around her on her quest to be reunited. As she discovers new “pieces” of the game map, players can rearrange them to shape the levels themselves - unlocking new paths, puzzles, and story moments.
Carto will traverse strange new lands, learn their cultures, and enlist the help of new friends along the way in this hand-crafted adventure.
