Evaluation

Chime Sharp launched out of Early Access on July 19, 2016, following a Kickstarter-backed development period. After launch, the developer shipped one post-launch patch on August 5, 2016 (v6.5), which addressed unlocking mechanics, added a new challenge system, and included cheat codes. That same patch post mentioned a planned v6.6 update containing a promised bonus 16th track. However, there is no evidence that v6.6 was ever announced as shipped, and all developer communication stopped after August 5, 2016 — nearly a decade ago. The game has no unreleased DLC listed on the store, no roadmap pointing to future content, and no developer statements about ongoing work after that final patch. Given the extremely small scope of the remaining commitment (one bonus track) and the total absence of any developer communication since August 5, 2016, the game is best understood as having reached its completed state at that point. There is no indication of any further content or development activity.

About this game

Chime was a much-loved music puzzle game on Xbox Live Arcade, PC and PS3. What happens if you file away the rusty edges?
New music + new modes + new visuals = CHIME SHARP.

Place pieces, paint the board, make music. Chime Sharp is an sequel to 2009's Chime, a music puzzle game with an addictive, ambient heartbeat. You tessellate shapes to cover a grid, while a beatline reads those shapes as notes. As you cover the board the music builds to a beautiful crescendo of your own design. The only way to discover Chime is to play it, but if you want a glimpse, consider what it might feel like to cross Tetris, a music sequencer and a hypnotic dream about your favourite pop song.

Chime Sharp takes Chime's classic dynamic and updates it for 2015. The core rules are the same but the aesthetic is clean and modern and the game's soundtrack has been completely refreshed. With fifteen new levels, experimental modes, new-era connectivity and sharper ways to play, Chime's finally back -- and it wants to be your new favourite mixtape.
