Classic Marathon 2

Classic Marathon 2 is a fan-community revival of the 1995 Bungie FPS Marathon 2: Durandal, made available on Steam on July 12, 2024 as a free-to-play title. The game's content — levels, story, enemies, weapons — is the original 1995 release, and the only DLC (an XBLA Graphics Pack) shipped on the same day as the Steam launch. The fan developers behind the Aleph One engine continue to release periodic updates to the engine itself, improving compatibility and fixing bugs. The most recent updates were a beta announcement on August 8, 2025, a full engine release (Aleph One 1.11) on August 29, 2025 adding Linux support and audio improvements, and a bug fix release (1.10.1) on March 3, 2025. These are engine/technical updates — not new game content — focused on platform support, audio fidelity, and stability. No new game content has been announced or implied. The game launched as a preservation and modernization of a complete, decades-old title, and there is no roadmap or indication of additional story content, DLC, or expansions. The ongoing engine patches reflect the open-source community's continued maintenance work rather than content development.
