Evaluation

Colony 37 entered Early Access on September 23, 2025, with developer Valen explicitly stating the game was "far from finished." Since then, Valen has maintained a very active update cadence: v0.35 (October 11, 2025), v0.4 (October 28, 2025), v0.5 (February 25, 2026), v0.52 (March 11, 2026), v0.53 (March 23, 2026), v0.6 (July 8, 2026), and now v0.65 (August 17, 2026 — today). The v0.65 update is substantial, adding reworked character models, new story transmissions pushing toward a conclusion with multiple planned endings, two new locations (the Bar and Bay areas), a new laboratory, two new weapons, additional inventory slots, and an updated experience system. Notably, the developer closes the update notes by explicitly previewing the next patch: oxygen consumption is being removed and an upgrade system is in development. The developer also expressed a personal goal around the game's one-year Early Access anniversary on September 26, 2026, signaling ongoing momentum. The game remains clearly in active development with no indication of an approaching 1.0 release date.
Evidence
v0.65 ships with new story content, reworked character models, new Bar and Bay locations, a new laboratory, two new weapons, QOL improvements, and a soundtrack addition. Developer previews the next patch: oxygen mechanic removal and a new upgrade system. Notes the game's one-year Early Access anniversary is September 26, 2026.

  • 10 underground biomes with their own threats and goods you can find.

  • Story-driven gameplay.

  • Radiation, darkness, and lack of oxygen are your constant enemies.

  • Perk system.

  • Each biome has its own set of resources for you to gather.

  • Each biome contains its own set of items that you can find in underground chests.

  • Sell all of your found resources back at the base.

  • Even if you didn't manage to bring back your resources, each destroyed block provides you with experience that you can spend on upgrading your character.

  • Players can equip 3 instruments and 10 miscellaneous items. What kind of character build you want to make is completely up to you.

  • 40+ instruments starting from pickaxes and shovels and ending with flamethrowers, dynamite, drills, and advanced firepower.

  • 200+ trinkets that you can buy or find. Some of them boost your character's stats (damage, health, movement speed, etc.), while some of them allow you to create explosions with each hit, teleport, or even fly.

  • 20+ consumables that are acting as emergency boosts of health/oxygen/energy in a tricky situation.
