Evaluation
Cookie Clicker originally launched as a browser game in 2013 and came to Steam on September 1, 2021. Orteil has consistently updated the game since then, adding new buildings, upgrades, achievements, minigames, and language support across multiple patches.
Two developer statements directly confirm that more content is on the way. On February 4, 2025, Orteil posted a patch announcement that explicitly listed what is currently in progress: "We're still making progress on the dungeons minigame, UI overhaul, and QoL changes." Then on May 22, 2025, Orteil announced the console launch (PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch) and again stated: "we're already planning the next content updates! New features will release on browser first, then Steam and consoles."
Earlier, in August 2023, Orteil marked the game's 10th anniversary with the declaration: "there's still so much more we want to add... we're only just getting started." These statements collectively form a clear and consistent picture: the developer has explicitly named unfinished features and confirmed that content development is ongoing. The store description also characterizes the game as "very actively developed since" its 2013 origins.
The only DLC listed is the soundtrack, which released in September 2021. No unreleased DLC is listed on the store. The last developer communication was on May 22, 2025, which is within a reasonable timeframe given the game's historically relaxed but sustained update cadence. Nothing in the developer's communications suggests development is winding down.

Developer confirms active progress on a dungeons minigame, UI overhaul, and quality-of-life changes in a 'What's next' section of the patch announcement.
