Creature Crafter launched on December 23, 2022 and has maintained a consistent and active post-launch development cadence. Developer Daniel Lochner has shipped six major content updates since launch: Minigames (June 21, 2023), The City (July 21, 2023), a large cross-platform and gameplay overhaul (August 24, 2024), 1.6 Safety First (August 10, 2025), 1.7 Modding Support (September 29, 2025), and most recently 1.8 - Major Update (June 29, 2026), which added a full Minigames Mode, a Pets DLC feature, an emotes system, expanded creature abilities, and significant multiplayer improvements. This was followed just six weeks later by update 1.9 on August 11, 2026, delivering a substantial performance and optimization overhaul including a new mesh-baking system and multiplayer netcode improvements. The game also has a released Pets DLC that launched alongside the 1.8 update. On December 23, 2023, the developer explicitly stated "I have huge plans for the future" and mentioned two additional games in the Creature franchise, signaling long-term investment. The most recent developer communication was on August 11, 2026 — just 8 days before today's date — confirming the developer remains actively engaged. About this game

The core gameplay loop involves constructing creatures to explore hand-crafted worlds and collecting body parts and patterns to upgrade your creature. You can then use your newly acquired abilities to complete quests to earn cash and re-invest into your creature. However, if you’re more interested in just creating creatures, then you can switch over to creative mode and everything will already be unlocked!

Build

Customize the shape of your creature by manipulating its spine and attaching transformable body parts. Altering your creature then changes its statistics (e.g., weight, speed, health etc.) and attaching certain body parts gives it special abilities (e.g., flying, swimming, biting etc.).

Paint

Change the color of your creature’s body and attached body parts, as well as the pattern and texture of your creature’s skin.

Play

When you’re finished designing your creature, you can bring it to life! Traverse forests, swim in the ocean or fly high above the clouds — your creature will procedurally animate to adapt to its environment.
