Evaluation

Dead Town Tales launched on Steam on May 25, 2023 with two playable career paths: Human and Ghost. Within days of launch, the developer (a four-person indie studio) published a post on May 28, 2023 outlining their post-launch plans: first, stability tuning and balance fixes, and then a new "Endless Mode" (called Wanmiao Realm / 幻渺之境) planned as a free DLC. That mode launched on September 22, 2023 as promised, adding a new roguelike tower-climbing gameplay layer free to all base game owners. The store description, as it exists today, mentions that "future plans" include unlocking more careers through data chapters — however, this language was present at launch and has since been acted upon. On April 29, 2024, the developer released the Immortal (仙) career DLC, adding nearly 100 new cards, dozens of item effects, over 70,000 characters of new story content, and 9 new endings. This DLC was given away free to all existing owners as a thank-you, and priced as a paid add-on for new buyers after the limited-time period. Since the Immortal DLC launched on April 29, 2024, there have been no further developer announcements, roadmaps, or hints of additional content. The game has now gone over two years without any new content signal. The store description's reference to "future plans" appears to have been fulfilled by the Immortal DLC. With three major content milestones shipped (Human/Ghost at launch, Endless Mode in September 2023, Immortal DLC in April 2024), no unreleased DLC listed on the store, and no developer communication suggesting further additions, the game's content arc appears complete.

About this game

Welcome to Dead Town.

Dead Town Tales is a single-player game with a strong ancient Chinese style that focuses on strategy card building and plot exploration as its core Roguelike gameplay. In this game, you will fight and explore to uncover the truth behind the sleeping case in this romantic and mysterious world covered by mist.

Don’t worry, people, ghosts, spirits, and monsters in ‘Lanruo Town’ are all very friendly, at least it seems so…

People and Ghosts on Different Paths

The current version offers two career paths: human and ghost, corresponding to completely different decks and stories. Please choose according to your heart to start your ink-and-wash ancient style weird talk journey. Future plans to unlock more careers with data chapters.

Choose carefully and build a deck that is exclusive to you

Expand your exclusive dynamic deck as the plot progresses. Strategy moves freely combined, amulets weapons for you to match. Just don’t forget to ask yourself when faced with a choice: are you sure you don’t want to think about it again?

High-divergence plot, ending never written

There will always be an ending to the story, but there are dozens of possibilities here. Why does the thousand-year-old goddess statue in the Taoist temple have her eyes low and cover her pity, and where will the fate point to by the three copper coins in front of her? All you can do is choose.

The end is also the beginning, new challenges in multiple rounds

Time turns, strange things happen. The game requires multiple rounds of exploration to discover more truths. To avoid you feeling bored, here are some randomly generated game content. Every start is a new unknown journey!
