Evaluation

DeadOS is an Early Access zombie outbreak simulator by solo developer Benn Powell, first released on April 29, 2021. It remains explicitly in Early Access and is being actively and frequently updated. The ten most recent news posts span from May 2025 through August 5, 2026 and show a sustained pattern of major new systems shipping roughly every 1–3 months: barricades (May 2025), procedural rivers (February 2026), bridge choke points (March 2026), zombie noise attraction (April 2026), parks (May 2026), an in-game City Editor (June 2026), river editing within the City Editor (July 8, 2026), and hospitals with new doctor AI (July 29, 2026). The most recent post on August 5, 2026 delivered further City Generator improvements as a follow-up to the hospital update. The game is currently on version 0.42.1 — still well below a 1.0 release. Across multiple recent posts, the developer has outlined specific systems still planned: ambulances, a morgue, military corpse cleanup, infected civilians becoming symptomatic and walking themselves to hospital, a noise overlay visualization, military use of parks as quarantine zones, and an eventual Scenario Editor. The July 29, 2026 hospital update post alone lists several of these future intentions explicitly. This is a solo developer consistently shipping substantial new content and openly communicating what comes next. There is no indication of a 1.0 release being imminent or of development winding down.
Evidence
Version 0.42.1 ships reworked City Generating Screen with new park, hospital, and river density sliders. Most recent developer communication.
