Evaluation

Derelict Star launched on April 2, 2026 as a complete, hand-crafted momentum-based platformer built by a solo developer. The store description presents it as a finished product, highlighting its 500+ screens, design philosophy, and feature set with no mention of post-launch expansions or additional content plans. Since launch, the developer has shipped a steady stream of polish updates — eight feature patches and two bug fixes between April 2 and July 8, 2026. These updates have addressed accessibility options, hardware compatibility, quality-of-life improvements, and minor bug fixes. None introduce new areas, mechanics, or content beyond what shipped at launch. The only DLC is a soundtrack pack that released alongside the game on April 2, 2026. The developer has made no announcements about future content, expansions, or a roadmap at any point. The store description reads as a complete package, and the developer's own note frames the game as something they crafted and finished ("I hope you enjoy what I've created"). The post-launch update pattern is consistent with a solo developer supporting a finished game — not building toward additional content releases. The game is now past the 180-day recently-launched window (launched April 2, 2026; today is October 1, 2026), and there is no indication from the developer that further content is planned. With no outstanding commitments, no unreleased DLC, and no developer communication suggesting future additions, this game launched and remains a complete package.

About this game

Poor planning has put you in a tough situation: your spacecraft is nearly out of power and an abandoned derelict freighter is your only chance for survival. Can you overcome the tricky obstacles that await you and collect enough power to make it out alive?

Note from the developer:

I am obsessed with platformers and the minute details of how they control and I wanted to create a game that features the things I love most in the genre:

  • a focus on exploration in a large non-linear world

  • simple and intuitive controls that are hard to master

  • movement that highlights both momentum and pixel precision

I spent countless hours hand-crafting challenges and tweaking the physics for this game until they felt perfect to me, and I hope you enjoy what I've created.

– ❤️ gate

Features:

  • Over 500 screens to navigate and explore in a large contiguous world

  • Learn mechanics and controls through intuitive gameplay -- no explicit tutorials or unnecessary hand-holding

  • No permanent upgrades: objectives can be tackled in any order, gated only by your improving skill as a player

  • Tons of optional secrets and collectables. Retrieving them all will be a challenge, even for platforming experts

  • In-game hint menu and assist options for players that want more help or guidance
