Evaluation

Desperate Place launched on April 21, 2025. One week after launch, the developer published a roadmap on April 28, 2025 committing to ongoing development and upcoming content. The first major update, "A New Start" (v1.1.0), shipped on June 18, 2025 with a comprehensive overhaul of the tower upgrade system, six new unit types, fully reworked stage layouts, new fire modes, and new tactical skills. On July 29, 2025, version 1.2.0 delivered balance adjustments and explicitly noted these were made "alongside the development of new content," signaling that further work was actively in progress at that time. The last developer communication is the July 29, 2025 patch. With only one major content release post-launch (June 18, 2025), there is not yet a firmly established multi-release cadence. However, the developer's own statement in the July 2025 patch that new content is in development, combined with the April 2025 roadmap commitment, means there are outstanding declared intentions for further content. The gap between July 29, 2025 and today (September 24, 2026) is approximately 14 months of silence — which exceeds a 6-month threshold — but importantly, the developer has not announced the end of development or that the game is complete. Given the single major update so far, there is no multi-point cadence to measure against, which means the 6-month silence ceiling applies. This is borderline, but the explicit "new content in development" statement from July 2025 means outstanding commitments still stand, and the silence has not been accompanied by any closing announcement. The situation sits at the edge of development_uncertain, but the absence of any distress signals or closure statement, combined with the developer's track record of steady post-launch communication from April through July 2025, supports keeping active_development rather than flagging uncertainty — the developer described active work without naming specific deliverables, and no signal has contradicted that since.
Evidence
Balance patch v1.2.0 notes that adjustments were made 'alongside the development of new content,' indicating active work on further updates at that time.

About this game

We sincerely thank Thronefall and Into the Breach for the design inspiration they provided. We hope to build on some of their great ideas while adding our own touches. Thanks also to all the developers and players who continue to support and enjoy strategy games.

Desperate Place is a space sci-fi themed base-building tower defense game.

In the year EC3040, humanity is no longer confined to Earth and has begun to colonize the stars, exploring new habitable planets. During the journey to the KOI 7711.01 planet, the colony ship unexpectedly encounters an extremely strong ion beam wave released by a red giant star, causing a leak of helium-3 stored in the fuel compartment. The ship is forced to land on an unknown planet, where it must search for helium-3 to maintain fuel supply and repair the damaged vessel. To make matters worse, every time helium-3 particles are brought back to the ship, unknown creatures on the planet launch an attack on the ship. To successfully reach your destination, you must temporarily build a small base to eliminate all incoming enemies.

Build - Resources are the Key to Survival

As the commander, you need to use the limited resources at hand to build a small base capable of completing the mission.

Building a base on the desolate surface of an alien planet is no easy task; it requires careful planning of the base layout and choosing the best locations to construct resource extraction stations and research facilities. To fend off attacks from unknown creatures, it is also necessary to build sufficient defensive structures, including not only defensive towers but also traps and obstacles that take advantage of the terrain to slow down enemy advances.

Dangerous - Overcoming Fear with Firepower

All fear stems from a lack of firepower. Overcome your fear of the unknown creatures with superior firepower!

The game offers a variety of defensive towers, including artillery towers, laser towers, and missile launchers, each with its specific range and damage type. Please arrange the defensive towers rationally according to the characteristics and attack routes of the enemies to form a crossfire network and maximize damage output.

Enemies will become stronger and more diverse as the game progresses. Continuously adapt and upgrade your defenses to give these pesky creatures a taste of bullets.

Strategizing - Never Settle for the Status Quo

To complete the mission, you need to utilize all available resources: barriers, towers, traps, and even yourself and the little robot that accompanies you.

Even if you are temporarily safe, never settle for the status quo. The planet's weather is unpredictable and can affect your established defense plans at any time. Do not have any mercy for the monsters on this planet.
