Evaluation
DEVOUR launched on January 28, 2021 and has grown steadily since then, with a small independent team adding free maps and features on a roughly annual cadence. Three major maps have shipped post-launch: The Manor (September 19, 2024) and The Carnival (October 15, 2025), with an earlier map release also in the record. The developer has consistently communicated plans for new content alongside each release.
Most importantly, on June 18, 2026, Straight Back Games published a detailed sneak peek of their next map, "The Apartments" — a Brooklyn-set horror scenario featuring a mob boss antagonist named Frank. The post includes concept art, a floor plan, and an estimated release window of 2027, making this the clearest possible signal that more content is actively in development. The April 14, 2026 patch notes also confirmed work on the next map had begun.
The developer's September 2024 price increase post explicitly cited ongoing development as the reason, and the studio has maintained regular communication throughout 2025 and into 2026. All current DLC (a Supporter Edition and a Soundtrack) have been released. The upcoming map will be delivered as a free update for existing owners, continuing the established pattern.

Each themed DEVOUR map not only brings a terrifying new manifestation of the goat demon Azazel, but also completely new environments to explore, items to collect, fiends to overcome, and forbidden rituals to perform.- Exorcise the demonically possessed
Your goal is to break Azazel's hold on the cultists. On each map, work together in a race against time to find key ritual items – some of which might be alive and unwilling - to complete the banishment. - Escalating difficulty
Each possessed cultist’s rage and speed increases as the game progresses, as does the number of fiends they spawn to stop you. Your only means of defence is your UV flashlight. - Replayability
Locked doors, ritual objects and item spawns are randomized, ensuring that no two games are the same. What's more, DEVOUR's unpredictable AI ups the game, making you second guess each and every move. - Player progression
Players earn experience with each playthrough, increasing their Cult Rank and earning Ritual Tokens. These are used to unlock valuable Perks, which can mean the difference between living to banish another demon or an agonizing death. - Nightmare mode
