Evaluation

Dream Team Basketball launched on December 24, 2023 and had been receiving regular updates well before its official release date, dating back to early 2023. The developer shipped four major content updates — including the All Star PvE event (February 2023), Ranked Mode and 57 new cards (July 2023), and the large Season 2 roster and systems overhaul (October 2023) — along with numerous feature and balance patches through February 29, 2024. The store page explicitly states the game "is still in development" and that the developer plans to "add a plethora of new game systems." This is consistent with the update history showing an active development pace through early 2024. However, a significant warning came in the October 2023 update, where the developer stated plainly: "The game is not financially viable on Steam at the moment. Launching on mobile and generating sufficient revenue to fund development is do or die for us... development of new features will stop if the mobile release does not work out." Since that post, no communication has appeared confirming whether the mobile launch happened or how it went. The last developer post of any kind was on February 29, 2024 — more than 16 months before today's date of June 21, 2026. This represents a complete break from the previously consistent 1–3 month update cadence. The combination of the unresolved financial distress signal and the extended silence — well beyond the developer's established rhythm — raises real questions about whether development has effectively stopped. The game remains purchasable and the store still describes it as a work in progress, but there is no current evidence that the developer is actively working on it.

About this game

Innovative Gameplay
A unique take on CCG games that combines 5vs5 team battles and basketball lore. The result is a short strategically and tactically intensive match that leaves you wanting for more. While your average team battle game needs you to do damage, manage mana and health bars, Dream Team Basketball revolves around scoring points, passing, movement and management of players.

The game has no critical strike chance, but it has 3point shooting that will make your shots score more, there is no armor or evasion but there is stealing and blocking as defense layers. The game embraces well know tactical game systems and brings them to a sports environment format.

Lore Driven Design
Play with over 360 basketball and NBA inspired cards, that allow a multitude of gameplay styles and enable crazy combos. With over 450 players, each with an unique combination for their 3 skills, up to 4 passives and other various traits, the game offers infinite possibilities for the deck building side of the game.

Competitive Environment
Our intention is to develop a competitive scene around the game and have embraced a "easy to learn, hard to master" design philosophy. The starting 5 players will have an important role for the outcome of the game, while the 7 bench players will give players a multitude of option to interact with various strategies when needed.

Dream Team Basketball is still in development. The current design is evolving every day and we’re hoping to take it to the next level with the help of our community. We plan to add a plethora of new game systems while also improving the polish for the game.
