Evaluation

Dying Light launched on January 26, 2015 and received a substantial post-launch content run spanning roughly seven years: major paid expansions (The Following in February 2016, The Bozak Horde in May 2015, Hellraid in August 2020), a large library of cosmetic and weapon DLC, and a Season Pass. All 38 DLC items currently listed are released — nothing is pending. In June 2025, Techland shipped the free "Retouched Update," a meaningful graphical and audio enhancement for the ten-year-old game — remastered textures, upgraded shadows, and a fully remastered soundtrack from the original composer. This was described explicitly as a free gift to all existing owners, made available ahead of the separate standalone title Dying Light: The Beast (released September 24, 2025 as its own product on a separate Steam page). The store description itself references "seven-year post-launch support" in the past tense and describes the game as something that "goes down in history as one of gaming's greatest zombie titles" — language that frames the original Dying Light as a completed legacy work. The Retouched Update was the final substantial enhancement to this game, and it has now shipped. A bug-fix patch (version 1.55) was released on March 19, 2026 to address a save-loading issue — routine maintenance, not new content. A community survey posted May 22, 2026 asks players about their wishes for "the future of the Dying Light franchise," but this is franchise-level market research, not a commitment to new content for this specific game. Dying Light: The Beast is a separate standalone product (App ID 3008130), not DLC for Dying Light. With all announced content shipped, the Retouched Update delivered as promised, and the studio's forward momentum directed at The Beast as a separate title, Dying Light's content cycle is complete. The completion date reflects the Retouched Update on June 26, 2025 — the last meaningful content addition to the base game.
Evidence
Dying Light: The Beast launched as a fully separate standalone game (App ID 3008130), confirming that Techland's ongoing franchise development is directed at a new product rather than continued updates to the original Dying Light.
