EMPTY SHELL launched on October 16, 2023 and has been consistently updated since then. Major post-launch content additions include the Compendium + Iron Volunteer mode (December 4, 2023), Daily Test Rooms (March 15, 2024), and the free canon spin-off EMPTY SHELL: THE LOOP - PROLOGUE (July 15, 2024). The developer has also shipped numerous feature patches, including scalable NG+ and gameplay modifiers (August 6, 2025), and most recently a substantial batch of new gameplay modifiers — including weapon stats display, jamming chance, bleeding, weapon swap time, and a special "Stray Cat" companion mode — on June 3, 2026.
The developer's January 6, 2025 anniversary post teased upcoming announcements, which were followed through on May 25, 2025 with the reveal that EMPTY SHELL 2 is well into development and has a playable demo on Steam. Notably, the original game continues to receive updates alongside the sequel's development, as shown by the June 3, 2026 patch. The developer has made no statement indicating that support for the original game is ending. This sustained pattern of updates — spanning nearly three years with no signs of winding down — indicates the game is still actively receiving new content.
