Evaluation

Escape Simulator 2 launched on October 27, 2025 with 12 escape rooms, a lobby hub, and Room Editor 2.0. Since then, Pine Studio has delivered a steady stream of major content updates. A free Holiday Update shipped on December 16, 2025, adding a new escape room, Darkest puzzle, festive outfits, and over 100 Room Editor props. A free Illusion Room launched on May 28, 2026. A full free VR Update arrived on September 14, 2026, adding complete VR support for all official rooms. The first paid DLC — Apocalypse — launched on September 21, 2026, bringing four new escape rooms, four Darkest puzzles, and new outfits. A Build-a-Room Competition concluded on October 1, 2026, with winning community rooms integrated into the game. All previously announced content has now shipped: the Apocalypse DLC, the VR update, and the second free room (The Illusion Room) were all promised in earlier 2026 posts and all delivered by late September 2026. The DLC listing on the store now shows both items as released. In April 2026, the developer announced the studio had grown to 28 people through the addition of Somnium Games, framing this expansion explicitly as enabling more content and faster development for Escape Simulator 2. That same post previewed the Apocalypse DLC with "blurred screenshot" teasers — content that has since shipped — but the developer has maintained a pattern of not announcing specific future content until it is close to ready. There is no currently announced upcoming content and no unreleased DLC on the store, but the developer has never stated that development is complete or that no further content is planned. Given the consistent cadence of major releases roughly every 2–4 months since launch (October 2025, December 2025, May 2026, September 2026), and the studio's explicitly expanded capacity, the pattern strongly suggests ongoing development even without a specific next announcement. Developer communication remains active as of October 1, 2026.

About this game

Escape Simulator 2 is the sequel to the best-selling escape room game. With immersive new environments, deeper puzzles, and innovative builder tools, it’s the ultimate first person escape room experience.

Explore new locations crafted with the help of escape room experts and legendary community builders. Each room pack contains four rooms filled with intricate puzzles and hidden mysteries:

  • Dracula’s Castle: Step into the shadowy fortress, uncover its secrets, and free the town from a dark curse.

  • Starship EOS: An exploration vessel is stranded after a collision, forcing you to retrieve an energy source from a mysterious dark sphere.

  • The Cursed Treasure: Follow a cryptic map to a pirate island, overcome treacherous trials, and claim the ancient treasure.

With more content coming soon after the release!

The game is designed for both solo play and multiplayer with friends. Up to 8 players can join together online, with built-in voice and text chat for easy puzzle-solving communication.

When you step into Escape Simulator 2, we want it to feel like you’re walking into a real-life escape room. Every detail is designed for interactivity—you can pick up and examine objects, wipe away dirt, drive vehicles, take a seat wherever you like, and move anything that’s not bolted down.

Create your dream escape rooms with the updated Room Editor 2.0! After seeing over 4,000 rooms built in the first game, we’ve made the tools even more powerful and intuitive. The new lighting engine makes your rooms look more like the official rooms, the Building Editor lets you design rooms (with working stairs!), and you can bring everything to life with Sequence animations.

Why a sequel?

A sequel gives us a fresh start and lets us push the limits of the genre further. We were inspired to explore darker escape room themes and experiment with new gameplay and puzzle ideas. Splitting from the original game let us focus on improving key features like rendering, networking, physics, and animations.

Will Escape Simulator still get updates?

Yes! With the recent Mayan DLC and more content on the way, we’ll continue supporting the original game while expanding its reach to new platforms.

Is it scary?

While Escape Simulator 2 is darker and has a more mysterious vibe, it’s not a horror game. The game also doesn’t feature any jump scares or gore.

We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas for Escape Simulator 2! We ❤️ our amazing community of escapers, puzzle solvers, and builders, so feel free to share your ideas on Discord or email us at: community@pinestudio.com!
