Eyes in the Dark launched on July 14, 2022. After launch, the developer (Under the Stairs) released several patches including a Halloween update on October 25, 2022 that added new costumes, visual filters, and gameplay features. The last patch activity visible in the news feed was from late 2022.
On June 14, 2024, the studio posted a significant update explaining that they had mutually parted ways with their publisher, Gearbox Publishing, and regained their publishing rights. In that same post, they were candid about the situation: they had not actively worked on the game for nearly two years at that point, and they acknowledged that returning to full-time development was not financially feasible at that time. They expressed a desire to fix bugs, add features, and implement player feedback, but stopped short of committing to any specific plans. They promised the community would hear from them "soon."
As of June 26, 2026 — more than two years since that June 2024 post — no further communication has appeared. The developer has not delivered on their promise of a follow-up update. While the studio expressed genuine intentions to continue supporting the game, their own admission of financial constraints combined with more than two years of silence since their last post makes it unclear whether any further development will actually occur.
