Evaluation
Fishery is an aquarium simulation game that entered Steam Early Access on September 26, 2019 and remains in Early Access today. The developer — a solo or very small team — has maintained an active and well-documented development history with 49 news posts published, including 9 major content drops.
After a large overhaul landed in Build 83 on October 10, 2025 (which rewrote roughly 90% of the codebase and added a new UI and multi-language support), the developer explicitly stated that "there is still a vast amount of work left to do in order to finish this game." Since then, updates have followed at a consistent 2–4 week pace: Build 84 (October 16, 2025), Build 86 (January 30, 2026), Build 89 (May 1, 2026), Build 90 (May 18, 2026), and the most recent Build 92 (June 25, 2026).
Build 89 introduced the first deep sea content — anglerfish — and specifically teased upcoming deep sea coral, rocks, shipwreck/ruin items, and mechanical coolers as near-future additions. Build 92 continued adding decorations and explicitly stated that "more decorative items, bug fixes, and feature tweaks will be coming soon in the next update." This is the most recent developer communication, dated June 25, 2026.
In a December 2024 development update, the developer outlined an ambitious plan to exit Early Access by late December 2025. That target was not met — Build 83 shipped in October 2025 and the developer noted it was "just the start of us getting back on track." No revised exit date has been announced, but development remains clearly active and the developer continues to ship regular updates with new content.

About this game
A creative aquarium simulation and management game.
Almost all the fish and plants that are in the game are created to imitate their real life counterparts. The art style of the game is very stylistic but we aim to make every species recognizable to people familiar with the hobby.
Quite often male and female fish of particular species have differences in their body shape and colour patterns. It is important to us that we show this in game even when the differences between male and female are very subtle.
Every aquarium can tell a story. Create dramatic rocky landscapes, thick aquatic jungle or even a scene showing the rusting carcass of a sunken machine. It's up to you to create the unique world that your fish inhabit.
It is not only fish that can live in an aquarium. Populate your ecosystems with animals that crawl as well as swim.
Create a sense of mystery, awe, curiosity or just simple fun with our simple but powerful lighting tools.
The substrate is an important part of any aquarium. It can be sculpted to make a dramatic landscape for fish and plants to inhabit.
The environment that your aquarium sits in can be key to bringing your creative vision to life.
You will know if your fish are happy and contented in the habitat you have created for them because they will have lots of babies.
