Evaluation

Flash Point: Fire Rescue launched on Steam on March 29, 2018 as a digital adaptation of the board game. On the day of launch (March 30, 2018), the developer published an ambitious roadmap outlining several planned updates: a Fig Backer Update, a Fire Academy Challenge Update, a House Rules Update, Online Multiplayer, and future DLC based on board game expansions (Second Story, Honor and Duty, and Extreme Danger). In the months that followed, the developer shipped two post-launch patches: Patch 1.0.1 (The Commendation Update) on May 8, 2018, adding new training levels, difficulty options, and commendation badges; and Patch 1.1.0 (The Training Update) on December 12, 2018, adding a tutorial system, 5 new levels, a tactical view, and various improvements. After December 12, 2018, all developer communication stopped. None of the major features promised at launch — the Fig Backer Update, Fire Academy Challenges, House Rules, Online Multiplayer, or any of the announced DLC expansions — were ever delivered or publicly acknowledged as cancelled. The two post-launch patches represent the full extent of post-release development, and there have been no news posts, patch notes, or announcements from RetroEpic Software since December 12, 2018 — over seven years ago. Given the complete and sustained silence since December 2018, the originally promised content was never delivered, and there is no indication that development ever resumed, the game is effectively complete in its current state. The promised roadmap content should be treated as abandoned rather than forthcoming.
