Evaluation
FlatOut is a classic racing game originally released in 2007 that has received a notable wave of modernization updates starting in July 2024. On July 20, 2024, ZOOM Platform published a major update adding Steam Deck verification, Steam Workshop support, trading cards, Steam Cloud, widescreen support, additional language options, and various fixes. This was followed by a language-handling fix on July 24, 2024. On June 6, 2025, a further patch added native controller support for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo controllers, widescreen loading screens, and Linux/Steam Deck mod fixes. In November 2025, a cluster of updates added 18 new achievements, Simplified and Traditional Chinese localizations, improved render distance, and mod manager fixes. The most recent patch on December 1, 2025 addressed a configurator display bug on multi-monitor setups.
This modernization effort has run from July 2024 through December 2025 — approximately 17 months — with updates arriving at a sustained pace of roughly every one to six months. The developer has not announced any specific future content, nor have they stated that updates are finished. Given the active cadence maintained through December 1, 2025, and no signal of conclusion, the game remains in a state of ongoing substantial updates. As of today (October 8, 2026), the last update was on December 1, 2025 — approximately 10 months ago. The cadence between major patches has ranged from roughly 1 to 8 months, so 10 months of silence is beginning to push past the outer edge of the established window. However, no developer statement has indicated updates are finished, so the active development assessment is retained, though with some caution.
