Gems of War launched in November 2014 and has operated as a continuously evolving free-to-play game for over a decade. The developer, Infinity Plus 2, has maintained a steady cadence of major updates throughout the game's life. Recent major releases include: Update 8.0 (July 2024, introducing Immortals and PvP Seasons), Update 8.4 (March 2025, Guild Wars redesign), Update 9.0 (December 2025, Underspire expansion with new room types), Update 9.1 (March 2026, Astral Spire progression system), Update 9.2 (May 2026, Kingdom Prestige overhaul replacing the entire kingdom levelling system), and Update 9.3 (July 15, 2026, Explore Mode expansion with four new difficulty tiers, a new Eternal Dragon Boss type, and optional Side Quests). The July 2026 update also introduced a new Jester Constellation Board to the Astral Spire and noted plans for more boards going forward.
The game is structurally designed to run indefinitely: it features rotating weekly events, multi-week PvP seasons with premium season passes, campaign passes, a crystal-based monetization economy, and a continuously expanding troop roster. Update 9.2 (Crystal Kingdom) launched, completely overhauling the Kingdom levelling system by replacing Kingdom Power and Kingdom Levels with the new Kingdom Prestige system, and retiring Deeds/Writs in favor of Crystals.
