Evaluation
GIBZ launched into full release on April 7, 2017, having previously been in Early Access since May 2016. At the time of release, the developer (Torrunt) stated that all planned content had been added during Early Access, and that while future updates were possible, the game was being released as a complete product.
After launch, the developer continued to ship meaningful content updates. The Skeleton Update (August 17, 2017) added a new boss, three new weapons, new enemies, and a new level. The Base Defence update (October 13, 2018) added an entirely new activity — a wave-based survival mode — along with a new weapon, hat, and achievements. A high-resolution sprite overhaul followed in November 2018. These updates establish that the developer was actively improving and expanding the game post-launch.
However, after the November 2018 feature update, the pace of updates shifted significantly. The next developer communications were a bug-fix patch in December 2022 and a small balance/fix patch in February 2023. These later patches are maintenance in nature — fixing crashes, correcting visual issues, and tweaking balance — rather than new content additions.
The developer has not announced any future content, roadmap, or expansions. There are no unreleased DLC entries on the store. The most recent developer communication was on February 26, 2023, and consisted of bug fixes and crash reporter improvements. Given the long gap since any substantive content update (last major content shipped in October 2018) and the absence of any stated plans for further additions, the game appears to have reached its completed state. The final maintenance patch on February 26, 2023 serves as the practical end of active development.
Evidence
Base Defence update shipped, adding a major new wave-survival activity, a new weapon, a new hat, and 10 achievements. This is the last major content addition to the game.
Skeleton Update shipped post-launch, adding a new boss, three weapons, new common enemies, a new level, and a traveling merchant.
