Evaluation

Gunsmith has been in Early Access since May 25, 2018 and remains there as of today (September 17, 2026). The game has a long, active development history with major content updates: the Henchmen Update (May 27, 2021), the Vehicle Update (February 11, 2022), and the Factory Management Overhaul (May 6, 2025). This establishes a sustained pattern of substantial updates, albeit at irregular intervals. The developer went through a difficult period in 2024, openly describing studio-level financial and operational challenges in an April 18, 2025 post and a December 31, 2024 video update. However, both posts confirmed the studio survived and was continuing development — and the developer delivered on that promise with the Factory Management Overhaul in May 2025, followed by the Minmax Update being pushed to a public testing branch on December 23, 2025. The May 2025 update post explicitly stated "More updates are on the way" and listed a range of planned features under a "Potential Future Features" section, including missiles, drones, floor painting, vertical item lifts, improved blueprint systems, and deeper gameplay integration. These are not just vague aspirations — they are described as features the developer is "actively exploring." The December 2025 Minmax Update post also describes backend changes as "pretty important for the future of the game" and expresses hope to "do more in 2026." The most recent developer communication was December 23, 2025. As of September 17, 2026, that is roughly nine months of silence — which is somewhat outside the developer's recent posting pattern (roughly every 6 months), but given the studio's documented history of going quiet during difficult periods and then resuming, and the explicit forward-looking commitments made as recently as December 2025, this does not yet cross into development-uncertain territory. The game has not reached 1.0 and has concrete planned content communicated by the developer.
Evidence
Minmax Update pushed to public testing branch; developer describes it as 'pretty important for the future of the game' and expresses intent to 'do more in 2026.' This is the most recent developer communication.

About this game

Gunsmith is a industrial management experience where you start your own arms manufacturing company. You begin by inheriting a small factory where you shall start forging your empire.

Acquire licences or don't, to begin making your first military grade items. You will build up your factory by unlocking machines and technologies. You start with very little and the government will not allow you to produce more serious items until your reputation has grown.

  • Over 35 machines to choose from.

  • Over 10 Belt types to transport goods including bridge belts that allow stacked belts.

  • Over 30 Products to manufacture.

  • Over 20 Clients to do business with.

  • 4 Types of Factory.

  • 6 Types of Workers.

  • A dynamic marketplace to buy goods from.

  • Automated buying and selling system.

  • Special orders and scenarios.

  • Sandbox Mode.

  • Steam Workshop.

Pick from a huge selection of machines to choose how you make your product. Efficient, mass produced, quickly or slowly. It's up to you.

Start by making small almost harmless things such as boots, trousers, vests with no armour. Once you start to fulfil these orders you will have the opportunity to unlock licences to expand your empire and make new and deadlier items. Eventually you will be granted a licences to manufacture armour, ammunition, firearms, explosives and the list goes on and on.

Research new technologies and machines that will lead to more complex and usually more dangerous items to manufacture.

Build up a reputation with over 20 clients from around the globe. They may ask for certain items that might not be technically legal. If you choose to do business with such people that's up to you as an arms dealer. They will always offer you a very attractive price.

Continue into the political sphere, providing you with the opportunity to manipulate global situations, push politicians into certain ways and cause conflicts on the basis of selling more arms to create even more profit. ( This is by no means inspired by anything that is currently happening in the world today )

It will be up to you as a Gunsmith to overcome all these challenges and dominate the market and make as much profit as possible. How you do this will be up to you. Good Luck...
