Evaluation

Hachishaku launched on May 1, 2025 and received consistent post-launch updates from a solo developer. The Gravure Mode (v2.0) shipped on June 13, 2025, fulfilling the promise made in the store description at launch. A second major update — Chado's Nightmare (v3.0) — launched on January 4, 2026, adding a new game mode, costumes, and manga cutscenes. On December 24, 2025, the developer explicitly stated that v3.0 would be "the final major content update for Hachishaku" and that after its release, all focus would shift to a new game. This was reaffirmed in the v3.0 launch post on January 4, 2026, where the developer stated "I will let you know when the final update is ready" — referring only to a small batch of remaining gravure scenes being animated by a third party. Those were expected to be patched in as a minor addition rather than a new content milestone. On June 25, 2026, the developer posted a feature patch (v3.3.x) adding new costumes and accessories, accompanied by a tease for their next game. This update is consistent with the developer's stated intent to continue small cosmetic additions while transitioning to a new project — it does not represent a reversal of the "content complete" stance. The developer explicitly noted they limited new costumes in order to save ideas for the next game, and confirmed the new title is now in development. A hotfix followed on June 27, 2026. The developer is still occasionally adding cosmetic content (new costumes, accessories), but has clearly communicated that the game's major content arc is complete and that their primary focus is now on their next project. This is a game that has reached its intended content conclusion while receiving minor cosmetic additions on an informal basis.
Evidence
v3.0 launched with Chado's Nightmare mode, new costumes, and manga cutscenes. Developer reiterated they would 'let you know when the final update is ready,' referring to a small remaining batch of gravure scenes.
