Hammerfight launched on October 28, 2009. On November 22, 2019, the developer posted a message marking the game's 10th anniversary and explicitly stating that the main developer, Konstantin Koshutin, has moved on to a new project (HiFleet) and can no longer provide support or fixes for Hammerfight. As a result, they announced the game would be made permanently free on Steam. This statement makes clear that active development has ended and no further content or updates are planned. The game was completed as a packaged product at launch and has been in its final state since the developer's November 2019 announcement.
