Evaluation

Hamster Hunter launched on December 31, 2023 and has been in sustained active development throughout 2026, receiving major content updates at a consistent cadence of roughly every few weeks to a couple of months. On August 26, 2026 — today's date — the developer published a post announcing their next game, Human Hunter. Crucially, this post also directly addressed the future of Hamster Hunter: the developer confirmed "Yes development will continue," noting that recent slowdowns on Steam were due to porting work for mobile and console platforms, not a wind-down. They stated they will "continue development on it for as long as I can sustain." This is an explicit developer commitment to ongoing Hamster Hunter development. The most recent major content update, the Trains + Automation Expansion, shipped on August 4, 2026, adding streaming cameras, a train station, and new automation features. Before that, the Rabies Update (May 14, 2026) introduced a hamster disease system, Multiplayer launched on May 10, 2026, and the Genetics/Eugenics system arrived on April 4, 2026. A March 23, 2026 patch also outlined "a long plan to flesh out the automation into having loads of content," describing future recipes, more automation devices, quality-of-life improvements, and "larger other systems." The developer is simultaneously beginning work on a new game while continuing Hamster Hunter. They have acknowledged that updates may come more slowly due to the mobile/console porting work, but have been explicit that development is not stopping.
