Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok launched on March 20, 2014 as a free-to-play adventure/RPG. The only paid DLC ever released was the Developer Appreciation Package on December 21, 2017 — essentially a tip jar/support option rather than a content expansion. Since then, the developer (Crystal Shard) has continued to issue periodic maintenance and compatibility updates: a Linux version and Russian translation in December 2016, Spanish/French/Italian translations in June 2017, bug fixes in October 2021 and June 2022, an engine compatibility update in September 2023, and most recently a macOS port with a German translation in December 2024. None of these updates introduced new gameplay content — they are platform expansions, translation additions, and stability fixes. The store description presents the game as a complete, finished product with no mention of planned additions. Crystal Shard's post-launch communications reflect a studio that considers the game content-complete and is simply keeping it running and accessible on new platforms. The two "major_content" news posts in the data are for entirely separate Crystal Shard games (Sub Terra Draconis and A Tale of Two Kingdoms), not for Heroine's Quest itself. The game shipped as a complete product and its content has not expanded beyond the cosmetic/support DLC released in December 2017.

Explore the rich world of Nordic mythology! Egther, last of the Frost Giants, has sworn to turn all the world to ice. A young heroine is called to fight him, but first she must survive the harsh environment, battle hostile trolls, and deal with many creatures and characters from the classic myths.
Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way. Each class has her own solution to the numerous obstacles, where the warrior is the most straightforward to play, the sorceress focuses on smart solutions and finding the right spell for the situation, and the rogue cheats her way through life without getting caught.
The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles, there are plenty of options for further replayability. The game has been voted voted 69th All-Time Best Computer RPG by RpgCodex. It is available completely for free, or as we like to call it, priceless.
