Evaluation

Inspector Schmidt - A Bavarian Tale launched on February 2, 2023 and received consistent post-launch updates throughout 2023 and into 2024. These included engine upgrades (Unreal Engine 5 in November 2023, then UE 5.4 in July 2024), translation and subtitle overhauls, Steam Deck support, lighting system improvements, and various bug fixes and gameplay polish. The last meaningful update to A Bavarian Tale itself was the UE 5.4 upgrade on July 3, 2024. The developer's attention then shifted fully to their sequel, Inspector Schmidt - The Ebbing, which was announced as a separate Steam title in July 2023 and released on April 7, 2025. The sequel is a standalone game on its own store page, not additional content for A Bavarian Tale. In April 2025, the developer confirmed that their studio's existence is secured beyond 2025 thanks to FilmFernsehFonds Bayern production funding — a positive sign for the studio overall, but this statement pertains to the studio and their sequel, not to further updates for A Bavarian Tale specifically. The only DLC listed for A Bavarian Tale is the soundtrack, which released on launch day. No further DLC or content has been announced for this game. The roadmap published in June 2024 outlined technical improvements (UE 5.4, performance, bug fixes, Steam Cloud saves, collector cards), all of which appear to have been addressed by the July 2024 update. No roadmap items or unshipped content remain outstanding for A Bavarian Tale. The game shipped as a complete narrative experience (~10 hours, 11 endings) and its post-launch update cycle has concluded.
Evidence
UE 5.4 upgrade shipped for A Bavarian Tale along with performance optimizations and bug fixes — the last substantive update to the base game.
