Evaluation

Ironbound launched on January 4, 2018 as a free-to-play turn-based multiplayer dueling game. After launch, it received steady content updates, including the Pirate class (December 10, 2018) and the major Ironbound: Relics overhaul (October 14, 2019), followed by feature patches through February 14, 2020. The game then went silent for several years, apparently due to a change in publisher control. On October 5, 2026, the developer posted a significant update announcing that the Ironbound server is live again, that the former publisher has handed over control on Steam, and that development has resumed. Premium access — previously a paid subscription — has been made free for all players. Most importantly, the developer explicitly confirmed that seasons are continuing on a three-month cycle, with each season bringing a new set of items. This establishes an ongoing, structured content delivery cycle. This is a live-service-style game by design, with recurring seasonal content built into its structure. The October 5, 2026 post makes clear the game is actively running and receiving new content on a regular schedule.

About this game

Ironbound is a turn-based tactical duel game built around RPG class identities and deep itemization. You shape your hero through equipment, not deck building, and develop your play style across matches rather than rogue-like runs.

Learn each class, then shape how it fights through weapons, shields and magic trinkets. Equipment can fundamentally change a hero’s play style. Your opponent’s visible gear lets you read their strategy and plan your response, rather than guess what might be hidden in their deck. Spend your action points well and land the strike that ends it.

FIVE HEROES, FIVE WAYS TO FIGHT

Choose your RPG archetype: the aggressive Berserker, the resilient Crusader, the stealthy Assassin, the cunning Witch or the chaotic Pirate. Each class has its own identity, strengths and abilities to master. Learn how they fight, recognize what makes them dangerous, and discover how different equipment can turn a familiar opponent into a very different challenge.

BUILD YOUR HERO

Your equipment shapes the way you fight. Gold earned in matches upgrades your character and buys weapons, shields and magic trinkets, opening up new combinations to explore. Itemization can fundamentally change how a class plays: build around its natural strengths or take it in a different direction. Your opponent’s equipped items are visible, so learning the gear helps you read their strategy and plan your response. You build a hero through equipment, not a deck of hidden surprises.

CLIMB THE LADDER

Put your hero and your knowledge to the test in turn-based online duels against real players. Read the opposing equipment, manage your action points, and decide when to attack, defend or commit to a decisive strike. Rise through the ranks as you learn the matchups and refine your setup. When you want to experiment with unfamiliar equipment or get to know another class, practice against the computer in single-player matches before taking your strategy online.

FREE TO PLAY

Ironbound is free to play. Character upgrades and combat equipment are earned through play; optional purchases are cosmetic skins for your hero’s crest and the Supporter Pack, which places a Supporter badge beside your name on the ladder. Nothing you can buy makes your hero stronger. Your advantage comes from understanding the classes, choosing your equipment and knowing how to use it.
