Jesus Christ Simulator entered Early Access on May 31, 2024 and remains there, with solo developer Luke Gayson treating it as an unfinished, actively developed project. Since launch, the game has received three major content drops: new city events including demon-summoning and freeze mechanics (July 12, 2024), the "Mech Jesus" playable character (August 4, 2024), and a large 2026 update on February 2, 2026 adding new powers, overhauled flight mechanics, new demon-killing abilities, and improvements to the Heaven system. Alongside these, the developer has shipped numerous feature patches and bug fixes. In the February 2, 2026 development post, Luke acknowledged he had been unable to code for roughly a year due to a hardware failure ("my old computer basically exploded"), but confirmed he is back and actively working on the game. The most recent communication is a feature patch on June 17, 2026, keeping weapons and controls up to date — confirming the developer is still engaged as of that date. The game remains in Early Access, which by Steam's own definition means the developer considers it a work in progress. Heaven is noted as "still not complete" in the February 2026 update, signaling that content development is ongoing.
