Katana ZERO

Katana ZERO launched on April 18, 2019 and received a post-launch update on May 30, 2019 adding Hard Mode, Speedrun Mode, and quality-of-life improvements. That update also explicitly promised "more free DLC — including story content and levels — is in the works." That promise has been reaffirmed multiple times. On September 8, 2022, the developer posted the first gameplay footage of the upcoming DLC, describing it as "Real, and Spectacular. Free of charge to all Katana Zero owners. Later." On April 1, 2023, a separate beta branch update ("Katana HERO") was released, with the developer specifically noting it did not come at the expense of the DLC, which is "still on its way." Most recently, on April 14, 2025, the developer posted another brief update — "Still coming. Still free." — accompanied by a new teaser video. Despite multiple reaffirmations, the DLC has never received a release date and has not shipped as of today, June 27, 2026. The most recent developer communication was April 14, 2025, and there has been no update since then — over 14 months of silence following a pattern of very infrequent posts. While the developer has not indicated any problems with development, the extended time since the last communication and the lack of any release window creates genuine uncertainty about when (or whether) this content will arrive.
