Kindred Spirits on the Roof launched on February 12, 2016 as a complete visual novel. Over the following years, MangaGamer expanded it with additional content: a Full Chorus DLC on January 18, 2019 added full voice acting, new CG artwork, voice actor commentary, and ten special drama CDs. An original soundtrack was also released in October 2018. The most recent content additions were four Drama CD volumes (Vol. 1–4), all released on November 1, 2022. All six DLC items listed on the store have been released. On February 26, 2026, the publisher announced the addition of Simplified Chinese language support — a localization update, not new story or gameplay content. No further content has been announced, and no unreleased DLC is listed on the store. The most notable news post from the publisher's Steam channel in 2024 concerns a completely different game (Steam Prison). The game appears to have concluded its content additions with the Drama CDs in November 2022.

Kokonotsuboshi Girls' Academy of Commerce, a school built on the site of an old castle, known as "Shirojo." Toomi Yuna spends her time here on her own, until one day her lunch on the roof is suddenly interrupted by a pair of ghosts.
Enoki Sachi, who died in an accident before the war, and Nagatani Megumi, who died of illness thirty years ago. These "kindred spirits" died with unrequited feelings in their hearts, met, and fell in love. They hold an ardent wish to experience their "first time" together before their eternal rest...But they don't know how.
The two haunting spirits enlist Yuna to help them foster more "yuri" couples at the school, to assist girls struggling with their hidden feelings, and with the hope that their successes will help them glean the insight they need.
