Evaluation

Knights Within is a solo-developed game that has been in Steam Early Access since May 15, 2024. The developer at Indecision Labs has maintained an exceptionally active update schedule throughout, with patch notes numbered into the 380s by August 2026 — reflecting consistent, hands-on development over more than two years. The game's primary intended game mode, Crusade (now renamed Operation), launched in July 2025 as an explicitly rough preview. The developer described the bosses at launch as "mostly placeholder" and stated "lots to come." Since then, the mode has received substantial rework: map transitions were overhauled in March 2026 to bring the mode closer to its intended design, and difficulty and structure changes continued through May 2026. Multiple systems are explicitly described as early-phase or still evolving. The Sentries mechanic, introduced in May 2026, was called "phase 1" by the developer, with plans for multiple enemy types and reward variations. As of August 2026, the developer noted that gadget design is still settling and described "lots of new gadgets already in work." Enemy scaling, tutorial systems, and map design are all actively being iterated on, with developer notes in nearly every patch explaining design intent and requesting feedback. The most recent posts (July–August 2026) continue delivering new weapons, new mechanics, balance overhauls, and polish — all accompanied by developer commentary indicating ongoing design decisions rather than finalization. There is no indication from the developer that the game is approaching completion or that any major systems have reached their intended final form.

About this game

Knights Within is being developed by Indecision Labs, a solo developer working on their first public project.

Humanity is fighting for survival against the wraiths that now reign dominant in the world. Thankfully, technology is on our side. Fight your way through hordes of enemies while completing objectives to further mankind's struggle to survive.

Embark on procedurally generated missions to push back the threat of the Wraiths. Progressing through a mission grants randomized modifiers for both you and your enemies. The longer you survive, the crazier the powers get, keeping each run fresh and unique.

Create your own class by equipping gear mods for your various weapons and armor to enhance your preferred playstyle. As one of the prestigious knights protecting humanity, you have access to the most technologically advanced equipment available.

Run missions by yourself, or bring up to 3 friends to fight alongside you against the never ending hordes of enemies in your way.

Play the default mission based mode, completing objectives while struggling to survive. Or try the Gauntlet mode, where your stage progress is saved and the difficulty scales endlessly.
