Evaluation
Last Word launched on Steam on May 8, 2015 as a complete, self-contained indie JRPG. In the months following launch, developer Twelve Tiles (Merlandese) shipped a series of quality-of-life patches and bug fixes, culminating in a notable July 7, 2016 update that added a New Game+ mode along with a range of polish and fixes. That July 2016 patch represents the last meaningful content addition to the game.
Since then, there have been no further updates to Last Word itself. The developer's subsequent activity has been focused on entirely separate projects: a September 2021 announcement for Placebo Love (a new game by Twelve Tiles), and a July 2025 announcement for Social Caterpillar (a reworked re-release of an older Twelve Tiles game). Neither of these has any connection to Last Word's content.
The DLC list contains only the game's original soundtrack, released alongside the game on May 8, 2015 — there are no unreleased DLC items. The store description makes no mention of planned updates or future content. All evidence points to Last Word having been a finished, shipped product since at least mid-2016, with the developer having moved on to other titles entirely.

Or will they succumb to the saucy banter of the motley aristocrats around them? Don't hesitate in getting the Last Word.
