Evaluation

Lawyer Guy is a free-to-play Early Access action platformer by solo developer Rob Welch, launched on November 6, 2020. The game originally shipped with limited content and received two smaller updates in early 2021 (new levels "Desolation Zone" in January and "Electric Forest" in May), after which development went quiet for several years. On June 14, 2026, the developer broke that long silence with a major update — called "the BIG Update" — that added 3 new levels, 6 bosses, difficulty options, an overhauled save system, a music player, level select screen, intro sequence, and significant redesigns to physics, UI, and existing content. The developer candidly explained the delay: after 2021, they shifted away from piecemeal updates to address accumulated technical debt, bugs, and polish issues all at once, which made incremental releases impractical. Importantly, the developer also outlined what remains to be done before the game is finished: 1-2 more levels, bonus challenges, a final boss, and a promised hub world. They estimate it will take "a couple more years" to complete. The game remains in Early Access and the developer is clearly still actively working on it. The previous concern about a development silence has been resolved by this June 2026 update.
Evidence
Major 'BIG Update' ships 3 new levels, 6 bosses, and sweeping redesigns. Developer explains the multi-year silence was due to a shift away from piecemeal updates to tackle technical debt holistically.

Testimonials

"This game is too difficult" -my friends

"How's that Lawyer Man game coming along?" -my family

"Lawyer Guy should have a katana made from nippon steel folded over 4000 times" -internet anime reviewer

Free, to keep, forever, no strings attached.

This game is a weird passion project and I don't want to make it my job, so I've made it free. There might be a sort of optional donation at some point in the future but the game being free and being for fun is very important to me.

Lawyer Guy needs YOU!
