Evaluation
Loch Ness entered Steam Early Access on December 3, 2021 and has never graduated to a full 1.0 release. The game received four major updates through October 2022, progressing from launch through animation overhauls, an Unreal Engine 5 map rebuild, and an economy system. Throughout 2022, the developer maintained an active update cadence and made clear the game was not finished.
In the October 22, 2022 update post, the developer explicitly stated that two new Nessie types — Eel and Shark — along with two new areas inspired by Urquhart Castle and Boleskine House were still planned. A follow-up patch on November 25, 2022 addressed performance. That was the last communication from the developer.
Since November 25, 2022, there have been no announcements, patch notes, or development updates of any kind. The promised content — new creature types, new areas, and the tools tied to them — has never shipped. The game remains in Early Access with no indication of whether development is continuing or has been quietly abandoned. Someone considering purchasing this game should be aware that the developer has been silent since late 2022 and the content commitments made at that time appear unfulfilled.
Evidence
Last official communication from the developer — a performance optimization patch. No updates, announcements, or developer posts have appeared since this date.
Developer explicitly stated that two new Nessie types (Eel and Shark) with unique tools, and two new areas (Urquhart Castle and Boleskine House), were still to come after the economy update.
