Evaluation

Mad King Redemption entered Steam Early Access on May 14, 2026, and has seen a rapid, sustained stream of updates since launch. The development team has been highly active and communicative throughout. Following launch, the game received Early Access Patch 2 on June 25, 2026 (full enemy AI overhaul, checkpoint system, co-op improvements, and the first batch of 24 Steam Achievements), Early Access Patch 3 on July 3, 2026 (extended melee chains for all heroes, reworked knockback, new animations, and a new Biome 2 room), and macOS/Steam Deck support on July 8, 2026. The developer also confirmed at that point that they were actively expanding the development roadmap. The August 13, 2026 "Biggest Update Yet" — EA 1.20 — shipped the Unlock Panel progression system, new Brotherhood quests and lore, dungeon minions, multiple save slots, and expanded localization. On September 21, 2026, the developer announced an Xbox and Xbox Game Pass release alongside a major story content update, and posted an updated official roadmap. On September 25, 2026 — the most recent developer communication — the team confirmed over 50,000 new players across all platforms and explicitly stated they are "actively listening, reviewing posts, and hard at work on fixes." They also announced that they are revising their internal schedule based on launch feedback and will soon share an updated content roadmap leading to the 1.0 release. That September 25, 2026 post also lays out in concrete terms what the path to 1.0 will include: two new biomes (Syl'Varis Forest and Ruins of Skygrave, plus a final showdown in the Cloister of the Dragon), four new playable heroes, new NPCs, mounts, and quests — and beyond 1.0, native online multiplayer, PvP modes, and console releases on Switch and PS5 planned for 2027. The developer has consistently stated they are "continuing to support Mad King Redemption well past Early Access."
