Evaluation

Matter launched on December 18, 2018 as a short (~30 minute) first-person parkour experience. After launch, the developer shipped two meaningful post-launch patches: the "Pulse Update" on August 8, 2019 (which overhauled several systems, improved level design, and added new features), and a localization update on September 28, 2019 that brought the game to 13 languages. Both posts also mentioned future quality-of-life items, but those were minor maintenance items rather than new content commitments, and the September 2019 post is the last update to the game itself. Following those patches, the developer's subsequent communications (February 2021 and May 2021) were entirely focused on promoting a separate solo project by one of Matter's developers — a different game called Square Paper City / Playhear. These posts explicitly frame Matter as a finished product and the developer as having moved on to a new project. There are no DLC listings, no roadmap, no announced future content, and no developer statements suggesting Matter will receive additional updates. The store description describes it as a complete, self-contained 30-minute experience. All post-launch improvements appear to have been shipped by September 28, 2019, after which development activity on Matter concluded.
